Establishment of religion is the action undertaken by a government to affirm a certain belief system, often either a single religion or denomination and less often multiple. It is contrasted with the disestablishment of religion which is the government action of dismantling its affirmation for a certain belief system. Establishment of religion is also contrasted with state atheism, a government's endorsement of irreligion.
