Hugh McKerney (also spelt at McKearney; January 1, 1843 – July 5, 1918) was an Irish immigrant to England, a builder and the 3rd great-grandfather of Cometan, classified as one of Cometan’s distant paternal ancestors in the McKerney family line. Born in Enniskillen, Fermanagh County, Ireland in 1841, Hugh married an English lady named Alice Sarginson in at St Oswald’s Church in Warton on 20th July 1868 after arriving in Lancashire. Hugh travelled across the Irish Sea from Ireland with his parents Hugh and Mary McKearney and seemed to have settled in Warton near Carnforth and Lancaster. In 1868, Hugh is recorded as living at 20 Lower Pitt Street, Christchurch, Lancaster.

Hugh and his wife Alice raised at least two children together named Margaret and William, the latter of whom was the great great-grandfather of Cometan. Following the death of his first wife Alice, Hugh married a lady named Mary Jane Turner (née Bradshaw; 1863 – 1943) on 22nd December 1900 at the registry office in Bow Lane, Preston. During this period of his life, Hugh is known to have been living at 38 Hartington Road, Preston and working as a builder. Hugh is recorded as having died in Preston, Lancashire at the age of seventy-seven. Hugh’s estate when to private on 22nd August 1918 with his effects totalling £14,226, 5 shillings, and 5 pennies.

In Cometanic ancestry, Hugh is categorised as part of the 5th generation retrograde, classifying him as a distant ancestor of Cometan.
