Oswald Airey (also spelt as Aiery; c. 1675 – ????) was the 9th great-grandfather of Cometan, classified as one of Cometan’s distant paternal ancestors in the McKerney family line. Born and baptised at St Andrew’ s Church in Dent, Cumbria, Oswald married Margaret Clapham on the November 6, 1692 in Tatham, Lancashire and they had two children together named George (b. 1698) and Charles (b. 1707). Charles Airey connects Oswald to Cometanic ancestry.
Following his wife Margaret’s death in 1714, Oswald then went on to marry a lady named Ann Jackson (b. 1674) on 6th August 1715 with whom he had three additional children named Mary (b. 1715), Robert (b. 1716), and Elizabeth (b. 1720). Oswald was the son of George Thorneborough and Isabel Airey; notice here that Oswald took his mother’s name and not his father’s, an unusual practice for the 18th century. The details of Oswald’s death currently remain unknown.
In Cometanic ancestry, Oswald is categorised as part of the 11th generation retrograde, classifying him as a distant ancestor of Cometan.
