The assigning of religious mononyms (known as the practice of mononymisation) to the most prominent figures of Astronism has existed as a practice of the religion since its inception with its mononymous founder, Cometan, who also founded the Millettarian onomatological system from which this Astronist practice of religious mononymisation developed.

In the history of Astronism, the first of the religious mononyms was of course Cometan, the second of which was ascribed to Cosma, the third Astria (Cometan's sister), and the fourth Lyra (Cometan's mother). These three women are also historically considered to be the first self-identifying Astronists.
