Richard Clapham (1622 – 1676) was the 10th great-grandfather of Cometan, classified as one of Cometan’s distant paternal ancestors in the McKerney family line. Born in Tatham, Lancashire, Richard was the son of William (1575 – 1660) and Marye Clapham (1590 – 1633) and is known to have married Janet Scambler on 21st May 1649 in Tatham, Lancashire, and with whom he had six children named John, Anne, William, George, Matthew, and Margaret. It is Margaret Clapham who links Richard to Cometanic ancestry.

In Cometanic ancestry, Richard is categorised as part of the 12th generation retrograde, classifying him as a distant ancestor of Cometan.
