Saint Cometan is a title sometimes ascribed to the philosopher Cometan for his religious scholarship and leadership, especially in reference to his founding of the Astronist religion. At present, the phrase is only informally applied as a demonstration of reverence and appreciation for the philosophical and theological contributions made by Cometan in world religion and in the origins of religion. Similar titles also ascribed to Cometan include the cosmic saint, and the living saint.
Cometan is not currently considered to have achieved sainthood, or any equivalent status, in any major religion, including in Astronism itself. This is largely due to the fact that the achievement of sainthood requires the individual to have died, such as the tradition of canonisation in the Catholic Church whereby at least five years must have passed before any application for beatification can be made.
